Aceflux is a term for individuals whose experience of asexuality varies over time. This means that their levels of sexual attraction can shift between feeling completely asexual to experiencing moments of mild or sporadic sexual attraction. These shifts can happen gradually or suddenly and may last from hours to weeks or even months. Aceflux acknowledges that asexuality is not static for everyone and allows for a flexible understanding of how attraction can fluctuate.
Jordan identifies as aceflux and often finds that their experience of attraction changes unexpectedly. Some weeks, Jordan feels entirely asexual, with no interest in sexual connections or attraction at all. During these times, they are comfortable focusing on their hobbies and spending quality time with friends. However, there are moments, perhaps during a special event or after an inspiring conversation, when Jordan experiences a faint sense of attraction. One weekend, while attending a lively music festival with friends, Jordan noticed feeling an unexpected surge of mild attraction toward someone they met. It was a rare and fleeting sensation, fading quickly as the weekend passed. Reflecting on it later, Jordan said, “It’s like my attraction has waves; it comes and goes, but it’s always part of who I am.” For Jordan, being aceflux means accepting these shifts without pressure to stay fixed in one identity. It provides the freedom to acknowledge that their orientation can change without needing to redefine themselves constantly. This understanding has allowed Jordan to communicate their needs and experiences more openly, building relationships that respect their fluid experience of attraction.
Aceflux can vary from person to person and can range from almost constant asexuality with occasional peaks to regularly fluctuating levels of attraction. This variability means that aceflux individuals view their identity as flexible, with room for changes in how they experience attraction. It allows them to embrace their experiences without being confined to a specific definition of sexuality.
Aceflux can be a sexual orientation on its own or combined with other orientations. For example, you can be aceflux and gay, which means that when you do experience sexual attraction, it is only towards people of the same gender.
Aceflux can overlap with abrosexual, but the difference is that for someone who is abrosexual, the genders they are attracted to can change. Aceflux people who feel sexual attraction are always attracted to the same gender; only how they are attracted to them or how intensely they feel that attraction changes.
The romantic counterpart of aceflux is aroflux.
