A-spec, or A-spectrum, is an umbrella term encompassing all identities on the asexual spectrum, aromantic spectrum, or both. It includes those who identify anywhere within these spectrums, such as gray-asexual, demiromantic, and other variations that experience attraction differently from allosexual or alloromantic norms. Sometimes, A-spec is used more broadly to include other identities with the “a-” prefix, such as agender and aplatonic, signifying a range of experiences that involve a partial or complete absence of certain types of attraction or gender alignment.
Diego always felt a bit outside of what society expected when it came to attraction. While friends would discuss crushes and romantic dreams, Diego felt little to no romantic or sexual pull. Knowing that A-spec was an inclusive term helped him feel valid and part of a larger, supportive community.
