Air Force Day is observed in Russia and Belarus on the third Sunday in August. This holiday, established in the USSR in 1933, celebrates military and civil aviators and aviation engineers. Initially celebrated on August 18, it was moved to its current date in 1980. After the Soviet Union’s dissolution, many former republics changed the date to honor their national air forces, but Russia and Belarus retained the celebration on this date. The modern Russian Air Force was officially formed in May 1992, followed by the Belarusian Air Force a month later, with both countries celebrating the day through flyovers, air shows, concerts, performances, awards ceremonies, and official speeches.
