August 22: Plant Milk Day

World Plant Milk Day is observed worldwide every August 22 and was established to promote plant-based alternatives to dairy milk. The holiday was created by vegan educator and environmentalist Robbie Lockie, co-founder of Plant Based News and PBN Food, and has been celebrated since 2017. It encourages individuals to explore the variety of non-dairy milk options, such as almond, coconut, oat, rice, and soy milk, which can be made from grains, nuts, legumes, and fruits. The day aims to highlight the sustainability of plant milk, as it has a lower environmental impact compared to dairy milk, which contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, it addresses ethical concerns regarding animal welfare in the dairy industry. To celebrate, participants can try different plant milk varieties, encourage others to do the same, experiment with recipes, make their own plant milk, or engage in a 7-day dairy-free challenge.
