August 25: Instant Ramen Day (Japan)

Instant Ramen Day is observed in Japan every August 25 to commemorate the launch of the world’s first instant ramen by Nissin Foods in 1958. This celebration was initiated by the World Instant Noodles Association and marks the day when Momofuku Ando introduced his chicken-flavored instant noodles, known as Nissin Chikin Ramen. The holiday encourages people to enjoy instant ramen for lunch, rank their favorite flavors, and share their experiences on social media using the hashtag #InstantRamenDay. Instant ramen, which consists of dried precooked noodles typically sold with flavoring powder, gained popularity in Japan after World War II due to food shortages and the influx of cheap wheat flour from the United States. Today, instant noodles are a beloved food globally, with over 120 billion servings consumed worldwide in 2023, particularly in countries like Vietnam, South Korea, and Thailand.
