Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is a Hindu festival celebrated worldwide, particularly in India and Mauritius. It honors Ganesha, the deity of wisdom and intellect, who is recognized as the son of Shiva and Parvati and is often depicted with an elephant head. The festival lasts for ten days and culminates on the 14th day of the waxing moon in the Bhadrapada month. During this time, people install statues of Ganesha in their homes and erect pandals, which are temporary structures adorned with lights and flower garlands. Priests chant mantras to invoke Ganesha's presence, and various local traditions enhance the celebrations. The first day of Ganesh Chaturthi is recognized as a public holiday in several Indian states and union territories.
