August 28: Read Comics

International Read Comics in Public Day is observed worldwide every August 28. This day encourages comic book fans to openly celebrate their love for comics by reading them in public spaces such as parks, subways, coffee shops, or libraries. The event was established in 2010 by Brian Heater and Sarah Morean, co-creators of the alternative comics website The Daily Cross Hatch, to honor the birthday of Jack Kirby, a prominent American comic book artist known for creating iconic characters for Marvel and DC Comics. The day serves to remind people that comics are for everyone, regardless of age, gender, or background. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences on social media using the hashtags #InternationalReadComicsInPublicDay and #ReadComicsInPublicDay. Some comic book publishers and stores also celebrate the day with promotions and special events.
