It was first celebrated in 2005, with the date chosen because "3108" (31st day of the 8th month) can be interpreted as "blog." On this day, bloggers are encouraged to recommend five interesting blogs, providing a short description and a link to each. The emphasis is on diversity, prompting bloggers to suggest blogs that differ from their own perspectives and cultures. Participants are also encouraged to notify the bloggers they recommend and congratulate them on the holiday. Despite its intention to promote community and diversity within the blogosphere, Blog Day has not gained significant popularity.
