Mawlid

Mawlid, also known as the Birth of the Prophet, is an Islamic observance celebrated on the 12th day of the month of Rabi' al-awwal, with the next occurrence on September 5, 2025. This holiday commemorates the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad and is derived from an Arabic root meaning to bear a child. Mawlid is widely observed in many countries with significant Muslim populations, including Pakistan, where it is a public holiday marked by processions and a 31-gun salute in Islamabad. The celebration typically involves decorating homes and mosques, as well as participating in street festivities. While the majority of Sunni and Shia scholars approve of Mawlid, it is opposed by Wahhabi groups. Despite this opposition, observing the birthday of Muhammad is generally considered a praiseworthy event among most Islamic scholars.
