Thung Yai-Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuaries Day is observed in Thailand every September 9 to celebrate the significance of the Thung Yai Naresuan and Huai Kha Khaeng wildlife sanctuaries, which were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991. Established in 1995, this day highlights the importance of these sanctuaries as conservation areas due to their rich biodiversity and complex ecosystems. The Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary, founded in 1972, spans 278,000 hectares, while Thung Yai Naresuan, established in 1974, covers 364,000 hectares. Visitors are encouraged to explore the sanctuaries, especially during the dry season, although access to some areas requires special permission.
