The Day of Inventors and Innovators is observed in Ukraine on the third Saturday in September. This professional holiday, also known as Inventor's Day, was officially established in 1994 by President Leonid Kuchma, who signed a law designating this date to honor Ukrainian inventors and innovators. The holiday has its roots in the Soviet era, originating from a celebration established by the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1957, which was initially observed on June 25. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, various former republics altered or discontinued the celebration, but Ukraine reinstated it with its current date. The day recognizes the contributions of notable Ukrainian inventors and scientists, such as Borys Paton, who built the first welded bridge in Kiev, and Igor Sikorsky, an aviation pioneer born in Kiev.
