National Day of School Failure Prevention is observed in France every September 23. This observance was initiated by the French organization AFEV (Association de la fondation étudiante pour la ville) in 2008 to address the issue of school dropouts, with an estimated 150,000 French students leaving school without obtaining general certificates of secondary education, which hinders their ability to pursue higher education. The day is supported by a network of non-governmental and governmental organizations, as well as mass media, families, and parents, and is coordinated by UNICEF. The observance aims to raise public awareness of the challenges faced by students at risk of dropping out and to promote improvements in secondary education systems both in France and globally.
