Johnny Appleseed Day is observed in the United States every March 11 and September 26, celebrating John Chapman, known as Johnny Appleseed, who introduced apple trees to various regions including Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. The date of March 11 was chosen to honor his contributions during the planting season and to commemorate his death in March 1845, although his official death date is recorded as May 18. This unofficial holiday recognizes his legacy as a Christian missionary and gardener, who dedicated much of his life to planting apple trees, teaching the Bible, and storytelling. Johnny Appleseed became a part of American folklore due to his kind and generous nature, and his life has inspired numerous books and films. Notably, the last living apple tree planted by him is said to be located on a farm in Nova, Ohio.
