Grandmother's Day is observed in Moldova every last Saturday of September. Established in 2007 under the initiative of Taisia Voronina, the First Lady of Moldova, this holiday honors the significant role of grandmothers in family life. The celebration aims to strengthen family bonds and national values, recognizing that grandmothers often take on the responsibility of educating and raising their grandchildren due to parents' busy work schedules. In Moldova, the day is referred to as "Ziua bunicii," which translates to "grandmother’s and grandfather's day." On this day, grandchildren express their gratitude to their grandparents, and families participate in special events organized in cities across the country to enjoy the holiday together. The observance is supported by the Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child.
