Firefighters’ Day is observed in Iran every September 29, coinciding with 7 Mehr in the Solar Hijri calendar. This professional holiday celebrates the heroism and contributions of firefighters to the safety of the country and its citizens. The day was established to highlight the critical role of firefighters, particularly following the tragic events during the Iran-Iraq War, which began in 1980. The well-coordinated efforts of firefighters in cities like Abadan helped mitigate destruction from bombings and fires. Initially declared by the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution in 2000, the day also serves as a memorial for firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty, including the 20 firefighters who perished in the Plasco Building fire in Tehran in 2017.
