World College Radio Day, also known as College Radio Day, is observed worldwide on the first Friday of October. This celebration was initiated in 2010 by Rob Quicke, General Manager of WPSC-FM at William Paterson University, to highlight the impact of college radio stations on students and their communities. The inaugural event took place on October 11, 2011, with participation from over 360 college and high school radio stations across the United States, Canada, and Jamaica. The event has since expanded internationally, with significant involvement from countries like Colombia and Italy, leading to the formation of an international coalition. College radio stations are known for their diverse programming, including local news, live sports, and music from independent artists, providing students with valuable skills. Participants can register their stations, support local college radio, and promote the event on social media using the hashtags #WorldCollegeRadioDay and #CollegeRadioDay.
