Civil Aviation Day is observed in Kyrgyzstan every October 7 to honor the significance of civil aviation and its contribution to the country's economic development. Established in 1994, the day commemorates the history of civil aviation in Kyrgyzstan, which began in 1933 with the creation of the first airfield near Bishkek and a flight over the Kungey Alatau mountain range. The holiday recognizes the efforts of all civil aviation employees, including pilots, flight attendants, air traffic controllers, and airport staff. The Civil Aviation Agency under the Ministry of Transport and Roads coordinates civil aviation in the country, which is served by five international airports, including Manas International Airport in Bishkek. The flag carrier, Kyrgyzstan Air Company, has faced financial difficulties and is currently banned from operating in the European Union.
