Air Force Day is observed in India every October 8, commemorating the anniversary of the official foundation of the Indian Air Force (IAF) in 1932. The IAF was established in British India as an auxiliary air force of the Royal Air Force, with its first squadron commissioned in 1933. Following the partition of India in 1947, the IAF was reduced to create the Pakistan Air Force. Since gaining independence, the IAF has engaged in various military operations, including the Congo Crisis and the Bangladesh Liberation War, and has participated in UN peacekeeping missions. The day is marked with a traditional parade in the capital city of New Delhi, showcasing the strength and capabilities of the IAF. Although Air Force Day is celebrated with pomp, it is not a public holiday, meaning employees do not receive a paid day off. The IAF currently has an estimated strength of 127,000 active personnel and 1,588 aircraft, with ongoing modernization efforts for its fleet.
