Artist's Day is observed in Ukraine every second Sunday of October, celebrating the contributions of artists to the development of Ukrainian fine arts and the revival of national traditions in contemporary art. Established in 1998 by President Leonid Kuchma, the holiday recognizes the efforts of notable Ukrainian artists, including Taras Shevchenko and Mykola Pymonenko. On this day, various cultural events such as art exhibitions are held, and distinguished artists receive state awards and titles, including Honored Artist of Ukraine. The National Union of Artists of Ukraine, which represents over 3,800 professional artists, art critics, and historians, coordinates many of the events associated with this holiday.
