No Smoking Day is observed in Armenia on October 12. This day was officially established in December 2008 to commemorate Armenia's ratification of the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, which took place on October 12, 2004. The Convention, adopted on May 21, 2003, includes measures to reduce tobacco demand, protect citizens from passive smoking, regulate tobacco product contents, and restrict sales to minors. The first No Smoking Day celebration occurred on October 12, 2009. With approximately 30% of Armenia's population being smokers, this day serves as a significant public health initiative, marked by various awareness events aimed at educating smokers about the harmful effects of tobacco and encouraging them to quit.
