International Pronouns Day is observed worldwide on every third Wednesday of October. This annual event focuses on respecting, sharing, and educating about personal pronouns, particularly for transgender, non-binary, and gender nonconforming individuals and their allies. The day aims to address the common issue of being misgendered, which can occur when individuals are referred to by pronouns that do not align with their gender identity. The event encourages the use of gender-neutral pronouns, such as the singular "they" and other pronouns like e/es/emself, xe/xyrs/xemself, and ze/hir/hirself. Originating in 2018, the observance has spread to participants from 25 countries across every inhabited continent. Although the campaign is U.S.-based and primarily focuses on the English language, it invites non-English-speaking communities to adapt the campaign to their linguistic contexts and specific needs.
