Custom Officer's Day is observed in Russia every October 25, celebrating the professional contributions of customs officers. This holiday was officially established on August 4, 1995, by Boris Yeltsin, the first President of Russia, replacing the previous Soviet holiday celebrated on May 29. The date of October 25 is significant as it marks two important events: the adoption of the Common Customs Regulation by Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich in 1653, which was the first legal document regulating customs in Russia, and the creation of the State Customs Committee in 1991 following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. On this day, customs officers are recognized by their superiors and government officials, with some receiving honorary awards for their outstanding service. The Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation, which oversees customs regulations, was renamed in 1994 and became subordinate to the government in 2006.
