National Nachos Day is celebrated worldwide every November 6 to honor one of the most popular snacks in the United States and Mexico. The holiday commemorates the accidental invention of nachos in 1943 by Ignacio “Nacho” Anaya, who created the dish for a group of U.S. soldiers' wives at a closed restaurant in Piedras Negras, Mexico, using limited ingredients. Traditional nachos consist of tortilla chips topped with cheese or cheese-based sauce, and they can be enhanced with various toppings such as salsa, guacamole, sour cream, and meat, often referred to as “super nachos” or “loaded nachos.” To celebrate, many people host parties featuring an array of nachos and encourage guests to bring their favorite toppings.
