November 17: Kyrgyz Cinema Day (Kyrgyzstan)

Kyrgyz Cinema Day is observed in Kyrgyzstan every November 17, celebrating the anniversary of the founding of the country's first film studio, the Frunze Newsreel Studio, in 1941. This day highlights the significance of cinema in the cultural life of the Kyrgyz people and was established by the government in 1994. The history of cinema in Kyrgyzstan dates back to the 1920s, with early films produced by other Central Asian studios until Kyrgyzstan joined the joint film corporation Vostokkino in 1928. The 1960s and 1970s are recognized as the Golden Age of Kyrgyz cinema, often referred to as the Kyrgyz miracle, featuring notable filmmakers such as Tolomush Okeyev and Bolotbek Zhamshiev. The current name of the film studio, Kyrgyzfilm, was adopted in 1961 and later named after Okeyev in 2002.
