Established in 2020, the holiday commemorates the founding anniversary of the Office of Water and Land Communications, created by Emperor Alexander I in 1809, which was the first unified government agency in Russia's transport sector. The Ministry of Transport, responsible for public policies and legal regulation in transportation, oversees the celebration, which involves professional events aimed at uniting transport workers and boosting their morale. More than 4 million individuals employed in the transport sector participate in the observance, which is marked by various activities throughout the country, although it is not a non-working day unless it falls on a weekend.
