Social Workers’ Day (Dzień Pracownika Socjalnego) is observed in Poland every November 21. Established in 1990, this statutory holiday honors those professionally involved in social work, a field focused on enhancing the well-being and social functioning of individuals, families, groups, and communities. The origins of this day trace back to a meeting on November 21, 1989, which led to the adoption of the Act on Social Assistance. Although it is officially recognized, Social Workers’ Day is not a non-working day. On this occasion, local authorities acknowledge the efforts of distinguished social workers, and the Minister of Labor and Social Policy presents state awards for outstanding achievements and innovation in social work.
