International Survivors of Suicide Day is observed worldwide every year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving in the USA. Established by the United States Congress in 1999, this observance was initiated by Senator Harry Reid, who aimed to create a day for individuals affected by the suicide loss of their loved ones to find comfort, help, understanding, and support. The event has since expanded beyond the United States and is now recognized internationally. Each year, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention organizes special events to unite survivors of suicide loss, allowing them to remember their family members, share their stories, and offer support for healing emotional traumas.
