November 23: Youth Day

World Youth Day is celebrated worldwide, with the next observance scheduled for November 23, 2025. Established by Pope John Paul II in 1985, it was originally held on Palm Sunday but was moved by Pope Francis to the Sunday of the Feast of Christ the King. This event aims to celebrate and appreciate the values of youth and was initiated after a significant gathering of over 300,000 young people in St. Peter’s Square. The first official celebration took place in 1986, with bishops coordinating special events in their dioceses. Customs include singing national songs with Catholic themes, displaying national symbols and flags, and exchanging national objects among pilgrims as souvenirs. Every three years, World Youth Day is celebrated on an international level in various notable locations, including the Vatican, Buenos Aires, and Sydney.
