Recurrence pattern: every year on November 30.
The Day to Mark the Departure and Expulsion of Jews from the Arab Countries and Iran is observed in Israel every November 30. This memorial day commemorates the expulsion of Jews from Arab countries, which began in 1947 following the United Nations General Assembly's adoption of the UN Partition Plan for Palestine. The resolution prompted anti-Jewish riots, with the first incidents occurring in December 1947 in Aleppo, Syria, and Aden, Yemen. Newly independent Arab states implemented measures to force Jewish emigration, including the deprivation of citizenship and confiscation of property. As a result, approximately 90% of Jews were compelled to leave Arab and Muslim countries between 1948 and the early 1970s, affecting the lives of an estimated 800,000 to 1 million Sephardi and Mizrahi Jews. The Knesset officially established this day, which is marked by the Gregorian calendar, distinguishing it from most Israeli holidays that follow the Hebrew calendar.
