This celebration is part of the first week of January, known as Prayer Week or Takai Week, which features a blend of prayers, church services, traditional dancing, singing, sporting competitions, and parades. Residents typically travel in groups from their villages, of which there are 14, visiting others while tossing sweets to children along the way. The main ring road of Niue is 40 miles long, and the holiday is recognized as an island-wide public holiday, resulting in the closure of all government offices.
