Saint Devota's Day is observed in Monaco every January 27, celebrating the patron saint of Monaco and the House of Grimaldi. The day honors Saint Devota, who was born around 283 on Corsica and was martyred during the persecutions of Diocletian and Maximian. Following her death, her body was brought to Monaco, leading to the construction of the Sainte-Dévote Chapel, first mentioned in 1070. The celebration was established by Prince Louis II of Monaco in 1924 and includes a fire set to a fishing boat on the evening of January 26, commemorating the story of Antinope, who attempted to steal Devota's relics. A white dove is also released as a symbol of her spirit. On January 27, a special service takes place at the Saint Nicholas Cathedral, attended by members of the House of Grimaldi, along with receptions at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo and firework displays.
