Multicultural Children’s Book Day, also known as Read Your World Day, is observed worldwide every last Thursday of January. It was launched in 2012 by Mia Wenjen and Valarie Budayr to address the lack of multicultural and diverse children's books. The day celebrates children's literature that promotes diversity and inclusion, emphasizing the importance of relatable characters from various backgrounds. The initiative includes the Read Your World nonprofit organization, which aims to ensure access to multicultural books for children globally. Participants can engage by reviewing diverse books, donating them to libraries or schools, and using the hashtag #ReadYourWorld. Teachers and librarians can request free diverse books and organize activities focused on diversity. The campaign has donated nearly 11,000 diverse books to children, highlighting the ongoing commitment to promoting multicultural literature.
