The Day of Azerbaijani Customs is observed in Azerbaijan every January 30, celebrating the professional day of customs officers. This day was established in 1997 by a presidential decree, coinciding with the anniversary of the first customs service's establishment in independent Azerbaijan in 1992. The origins of the Azerbaijani Customs Service date back to the 19th century, specifically with the establishment of the Baku customs in 1809, which was part of the Astrakhan Customs District of the Russian Empire. The creation of the State Customs Committee has significantly improved trade turnover and facilitated import and export processes, while also playing a crucial role in preventing smuggling. This committee strengthens the economic foundation of Azerbaijan's sovereignty and state security, and it actively combats drug trafficking and international terrorism.
