Amartithi, also known as Meher Baba Remembrance Day, is observed on January 31 each year, primarily in Meherabad, India, and by followers worldwide. This day commemorates the death anniversary of Meher Baba, an Indian mystic and spiritual leader who declared himself the Avatar. His followers gather to honor his memory and teachings, which emphasize compassion and spiritual awakening. Meher Baba, born Merwan Sheriar Irani, began his spiritual journey at 19 and established a community in Mumbai in 1922, later founding the ashram Meherabad, which became a center for his missionary work. His followers, known as mandali, participate in various rituals and gatherings to celebrate his life and legacy.
