Second Sunday of February: Racial Justice Sunday

Racial Justice Sunday is observed in the United Kingdom on the second Sunday in February. Initiated by the Methodist Church in 1989, it became an ecumenical event celebrated by Christian churches in Britain and Ireland in 1995. Originally held on the second Sunday of September, it was moved to February to allow Education Sunday to take its place. On this day, Christians across the country come together to pray for an end to racism and reflect on the importance of racial justice. Churches hold special services, fundraising events, and meetings, where parishioners give thanks for human diversity and seek divine assistance in overcoming prejudices. Each year features a new theme related to racial justice, with past themes including the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech.
