February 12: Youth Day

Youth Day in Venezuela is observed every February 12 to commemorate the young men who fought and died in the Battle of La Victoria during the Venezuelan War of Independence. This battle, which took place on February 12, 1814, was led by Venezuelan leader José Félix Ribas, who commanded a battalion of young and inexperienced students and seminary candidates. Despite their lack of experience, Ribas inspired them with the determination to achieve victory against royalist troops. The holiday honors the bravery of these youths and includes a large civil-military parade that attracts thousands of participants from across the country. Youth Day serves as a significant reminder of the contributions of young people in Venezuela's struggle for independence.
