Syrah, also referred to as Shiraz in Australia and South Africa, is linked to the Rhône wine region of France, where it gained prominence in the 18th century. Celebrations often include learning about Syrah wines from different countries, sharing a bottle with friends, dining at restaurants that serve Syrah, and participating in wine tastings or winery tours. The grape is versatile and pairs well with grilled meats, aged cheeses, and hearty dishes, while lighter foods should be avoided due to the wine's intensity. Notably, International Syrah Day should not be confused with Shiraz Day, which is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of July.
