Curling Is Cool Day is observed worldwide every February 23, created by Ruth and Tom Roy, founders of Wellcat Holidays, to encourage people to learn about and try the sport of curling. Curling is a team sport played by two teams of four players who slide heavy granite stones toward a target area on the ice. The day coincides with the Olympics every four years, making it an ideal time for curling watch parties or trying the sport at local clubs, which often offer open demonstrations for beginners. The sport has its origins in Scotland, with the first curling club established in Kilsyth in 1716. The Royal Caledonian Curling Club, founded in Edinburgh in 1838, developed the first official rules for curling. Today, curling is particularly popular in Canada and has been an Olympic sport since 1998. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences on social media using the hashtag #CurlingIsCoolDay.
