Sweden Finns’ Day, observed in Sweden every February 24, commemorates the birthday of Finnish folklorist Carl Axel Gottlund and celebrates the cultural heritage of Sweden Finns. The day was established by the Swedish Academy in 2010 and first celebrated in 2011. It acknowledges the significant contribution of people with Finnish heritage to Swedish society, highlighting their history, culture, and language. Events are held in various cities, including Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Eskilstuna, featuring dance, music, theater performances, and activities for children. While not an official flag day, municipalities with a notable Sweden Finns population often raise the Sweden Finns flag to mark the occasion. The Sweden Finns, estimated to number between 426,000 and 712,000, primarily include those who emigrated from Finland in the mid-20th century.
