Pink Shirt Day is observed in Canada every last Wednesday of February as an anti-bullying campaign. The initiative originated in 2007 when two high school students, Travis Price and David Shepherd, supported a classmate, Chuck McNeill, who was bullied for wearing a pink shirt. They purchased and distributed pink shirts to encourage their peers to wear them in solidarity, sparking a movement that has since spread to other countries. The CKNW Kids’ Fund, a charity in British Columbia, launched Pink Shirt Day to fund anti-bullying programs. Participants typically wear pink shirts, organize events, and promote the campaign on social media using the hashtag #PinkShirtDay. Similar events include the International Day of Pink in April and New Zealand Pink Shirt Day in May, both focusing on anti-LGBTQ+ bullying.
