Islamic Education Day is observed in Iran every February 27, commemorating the establishment of a new department by the Ministry of Education in 1981 aimed at promoting Islamic knowledge and values. The department was created shortly after the Iranian revolution of 1978–1979, which transformed Iran into an Islamic republic under Ayatollah Khomeini, replacing the monarchy.
