State Anthem Day in Ukraine is observed every March 10 to celebrate the national anthem, "Shche ne vmerla Ukraina" ("Ukraine has not yet perished"), which symbolizes the country's identity and independence. The anthem is based on a patriotic poem by Pavlo Chubynsky, written in 1862, and set to music by Mykhailo Verbytsky. The first public performance of the anthem occurred on March 10, 1865, in Przemyśl, during a concert honoring the poet Taras Shevchenko. Although not a public holiday, the day is marked by various activities across Ukraine, including public performances, special lessons in schools, and cultural events at libraries and community centers. The idea to establish this day was proposed by the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory in 2015, and it was first celebrated in 2021. The celebration gained particular significance during the 2022 Russian invasion, as the anthem embodies the struggle for national identity and independence.
