Tajik Press Day is observed in Tajikistan every March 11, celebrating the contributions of journalists, editors, and print media employees. This professional holiday has been celebrated since 1993 and marks the anniversary of the first Tajik-language newspaper, Bukhara-ye Sharif, which was published on March 11, 1912. Although it was quickly closed by the emir of Bukhara, it signified the beginning of the Tajik press. The second newspaper, originally named Tajik Holiday and now known as Jumhuriyat, began publication in 1925 and continues to operate as a government-owned publication. Celebrations typically include an official ceremony at the Tajik Academic Drama Theater in Dushanbe, where the Ministry of Culture awards outstanding journalists and media outlets, and exhibitions of print media are organized. The Tajik Journalists' Union also holds various events to commemorate the day.
