Africa Scout Day is celebrated worldwide every March 13 to recognize the Scout movement in Africa, which was officially established by the Council of Ministers of the Organization of African Unity in 1995. This date marks the anniversary of a significant meeting in 1963 in Lagos, Nigeria, where Scout leaders from sub-Saharan Africa convened to discuss the formation of a unifying organization for African Scouts. The Africa Scout Region, which supports 40 National Scout Organizations across the continent, coordinates various activities and events related to Scouting. The central event typically features a three-day camp for Scouts from Africa and beyond, while local NSOs are encouraged to organize their own celebrations. Since 2010, the main event has rotated among different countries, with past celebrations held in nations such as Burundi, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. The African Scout movement boasts over 3.5 million members, highlighting its role in youth education and community development.
