Summer Day is one of the largest pagan festivals in Albania, observed every March 14. It celebrates the end of winter and the rebirth of nature, with origins traced back to the temple of the Mountain Muse (Zana Malit) near the city of Shkumbin (Elbasan). The festival marks the day when the goddess of hunting, forests, and nature would emerge from her temple, symbolizing the beginning of summer. Initially celebrated only in Elbasan, Summer Day has expanded to include celebrations across the country, attracting thousands of visitors who come to enjoy concerts and carnivals. Festive national dishes are prepared, often in unique ways, and children receive treats like nuts and dried figs. The festival is known for its rich cultural heritage and traditions, making it a significant event in Albania.
