March 18: Day of Internal Troops (Belarus)

The Day of Internal Troops is observed in Belarus every March 18, celebrating the anniversary of the establishment of the Internal Troops in 1918. This professional holiday commemorates the creation of a key political institution in the country, with its first units formed from separate volunteer convoy guard teams. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the 43rd Division of the Internal Troops of the USSR was transferred to the Ministry of Interior of Belarus and reorganized into the Internal Forces of the Republic of Belarus in 1992. The current structure of the Internal Troops was approved by a Presidential Decree in 1995, and the holiday was officially established by another decree in 1998. Since 1999, the Day of Internal Troops has been annually celebrated on this date, recognizing the role and contributions of internal troops in Belarus.
