Chemical Industry Workers’ Day is observed in Turkmenistan every March 31. This official professional holiday was established by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow in 2017 to commemorate the inauguration of the Garlyk Ore Mining and Processing Plant, which took place on the same date in 2017. The plant, constructed by the Belarusian enterprise OAO Belgorkhimprom, is noted as the largest potash plant in Central Asia, with an expected capacity of 1.4 million tons of potash products annually, primarily for export. The celebration highlights the significance of the chemical industry, one of Turkmenistan's rapidly developing economic sectors, which includes nine chemical plants producing various mineral salts and fertilizers. The government also plans to establish joint ventures with foreign companies to enhance chemical production using local raw materials.
