Mahavir Jayanti is the most significant religious holiday in Jainism, celebrated 13 days after the waxing half of the Hindu month of Caitra, typically falling in late March or early April. This festival honors the birth of Lord Mahavir, the 24th and final Tirthankara, who is considered the founder of Jainism. Celebrations often include a procession known as ‘Rath Yatra,’ where Mahavir's idol is placed on a chariot, accompanied by the singing of religious hymns. The Jain community engages in prayers, charitable acts, and donations to support charitable missions during this time. Temples in India see a surge in visitors who come to pay their respects and participate in the day's ceremonies, while nuns and monks conduct lectures promoting the virtuous path of Jainism.
