National Tree Planting Day is observed in Tanzania every April 1. The campaign was initiated in 1999 to combat deforestation and address desert encroachment. Tanzania, known for its biodiversity, has about two-thirds of its land covered by forests, but it has been experiencing forest loss in recent years. Initially celebrated on January 1, the date was moved to April 1 in the 2010s. On this day, the Tanzania Forest Services Agency organizes events such as the launching of new forest plantations, and schools across the country host activities to educate students on the benefits of tree planting and the dangers of deforestation. Although the day is symbolic due to varying planting seasons across regions, it plays a significant role in Tanzania's conservation efforts.
