National Nuclear Technology Day is observed in Iran every April 9 to celebrate the country's advancements in nuclear technology. Established in 2006, the day commemorates the 4th National Symposium on Nuclear Technology held in 1989. Iran's nuclear program began in the 1950s with assistance from the United States and Western European nations as part of the Atoms for Peace initiative. The Tehran Nuclear Research Center was opened in 1967, and in 1974, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran was founded to oversee the nuclear program. Following a hiatus due to the 1979 Islamic Revolution and subsequent sanctions, Iran resumed its nuclear activities in 1995 through a contract with Russia for the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, which officially opened in 2010. The observance highlights Iran's achievements in nuclear technology and its ongoing developments in this field.
